Daisy Ridley escapes zombies in the trailer for We Bury the Dead.
Vertical Studios has released a trailer for the thriller "We Bury the Dead," starring Daisy Ridley. The film will be released on January 2 in the US and February 5 in Australia and New Zealand.

The plot revolves around Ava (Daisy Ridley), who, after a military disaster, sets out to search for her missing husband. To reach the contaminated zone, she joins a "body recovery squad." However, along the way, she discovers the dead, who have not only risen from their graves but are also hunting the living.

Zach Hilditch ("1922," "The Last Hours") directed and wrote the thriller's screenplay. Ridley also stars in the film with Brenton Thwaites ("The Giver") and Mark Coles Smith (2018's "Picnic at Hanging Rock").

Filming took place in Australia in 2024. We Bury the Dead premiered in November 2024 at the Adelaide Film Festival. The film holds an 89% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hockey romance "The Rivalry" finds buyers worldwide

Bell Media's new Crave original series "Heated Rivalry" is generating international buzz ahead of its November 28 premiere. The Canadian media group, Sphere Abacus, majority-owned by Bell Media since this year, has made several high-profile deals, the most notable of which is the deal with [unintelligible]. HBO MaxThe six-episode series will air simultaneously in the US and Australia. It will also be available on Sky New Zealand (starting November 30) and Movistar Plus+ in Spain.

The series is based on Rachel Reed's best-selling book "The Game Changers" and was developed by Jacob Tierney, creator of "Letterkenny" and "Shorty." It tells the story of two hockey stars, Shane and Illya, whose long-standing rivalry develops into an intense, secret relationship. Torn between their sporting ambitions, media expectations and their own fears, they must discover if there is room for true love in their world. The series stars Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie, as well as Francois Arnaud, Christina Chang, Dylan Walsh and Sophie Néliss.

Bell Media sees the early sales as evidence of the series’ international appeal. “‘Rivalry’ is a high-quality, globally viable premium drama,” says chief programming officer Justin Stockman. Sphere Abacus CEO Jonathan Ford even talks about the great potential for the international market going forward: Many networks are specifically looking for romantic series that reimagine classic genres.

‘Rivalry’ is produced by Accent Aigu Entertainment in partnership with Crave. Tierney serves as showrunner, director and executive producer. The novel series on which it is based is one of the most successful queer romance series in recent years and has achieved bestseller status in North America.

"Gumball" returns
on November 20, 2025.
Hulu dates the second season of this unusual animated series.

Hulu has announced the release date for the second season of The Amazing World of Gumball. All new episodes will be available exclusively on the US streamer starting December 22nd, as well as on Hulu on YouTube. Disney+For bundled subscribers. Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe continues its acclaimed reimagining of the Gumball universe, known for its wild genre-blending and meta-humor.

The new season promises maximum farce as the Wattersons plunge into a series of absurd adventures where "reality is just an option." Among them is a completely unsuccessful prom stunt where Penny fakes her own death, a rampage of wild animals in the suburbs, and a clique of high school witches who try to contact the afterlife through seances created for yearbooks. The highlight will likely be the return of Rob and "The Void," two of the franchise's most dangerous elements.

The 15-minute animated series stars Alcaio Thiele as Gumball, Hero Hunter as Darwin, Kinza Syed Khan as Anais, and Teresa Gallagher and Dan Russell as parents Nicole and Richard. Creator Ben Bockle continues to serve as executive producer. The visual style remains true to the series' established approach: a mixed-media approach that combines 2D, 3D, and CGI animation, puppetry, live-action elements, and photorealism. Matt Leizell and Eric Fountain are executive producers and directors of the series, and the music is composed by Xav Clark.

"Pony": Peacock announces release date

Emilia Clarke stars in new spy thriller.

Peacock has announced the release date for its new spy series, “Pony.” The eight-part thriller starring Emilia Clarke and Haley Lou Richardson will premiere on January 15, 2026, and promises an unusual mix of Cold War themes, resilience, and the bureaucratic world of intelligence.

“Pony” focuses on two seemingly unremarkable women in 1977 Moscow: Bea (Emilia Clarke), the daughter of Soviet immigrants and a Russian-speaking scientist, and Twili (Haley Lou Richardson), a fearless outsider from a small American town. Both work as “ponies”—intelligence slang for “persons of no interest”—at the U.S. Embassy until their husbands mysteriously die and they are suddenly drawn into a CIA operation. What follows is a conspiracy that goes far beyond a simple murder case and pushes the new agents to the limits of their loyalties.

Creatively, Pony is built on a solid foundation: David Iserson (Mr. Robot, New Girl) serves as co-creator, writer and showrunner. Susanne Vogel (Flight Attendant) serves as co-writer, director and executive producer. Emilia Clarke not only stars on screen, but also serves as executive producer. Along with her, Haley Lou Richardson, Adrian Lester, Artem Giles, Nicholas Podani and Vic Michaelis star. The series is produced by Universal Television. Pony consists of eight 60-minute episodes and aims to combine classic spy thriller tropes with a modern, character-driven storytelling style.

Amazon orders a new Stargate series
on November 20, 2025.
Amazon's subsidiary, MGM Amazon Studios, will bring the series back to screens.

Amazon has officially ordered a new Stargate series. The project is from Blindspot creator Martin Gero, who himself began his television career in the franchise as a story editor on Stargate: Atlantis. Gero will serve as showrunner and writer, and the series will be produced by Amazon’s MGM Studios. The studio is keeping plot details under wraps.

For this reboot, Amazon is relying on a creative team that is deeply rooted in the brand’s history. Along with Gero, Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, the creators of the original 1994 film, are executive producers. Brad Wright and Joe Mallozzi, who played a key role in shaping Stargate and Atlantis for many years, are also supporting the project as consulting producers. For fans, it’s a clear signal that Amazon intends to preserve the brand’s DNA.

Amazon is accordingly euphoric: “Stargate is an iconic franchise that has captivated audiences for decades,” they say. Nick Pepper, head of U.S. SVOD TV development at Amazon MGM Studios, said the new series should honor the brand’s “rich heritage” while opening a “bold, emotionally moving chapter” for Prime Video’s global audience.

However, Ava infiltrates the quarantine zone in search of her missing husband and discovers a terrifying truth: the undead are becoming more aggressive, ruthless, and dangerous with each passing hour.
Zach Hilditch, who previously worked on 1922, directed and wrote the film:

While We Bury the Dead emphasizes drama over horror, the director ensured that the zombies in the film pose a real threat.
