Australia vs Pakistan, 1st T20I - Live
For Pakistan, their pacers stole the show in the ODIs, and they've been brilliant in the shortest format this year as well. Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf have superb numbers in 2024 and are proven wicket-takers who should relish the conditions on offers.
The early season pitches offered a lot of help to the bowlers in the ODI series. Teams winning the toss were able to capitalise and bowl the opposition out cheaply. But the conditions should be more batting-friendly in these T20Is. Australia have a couple of quicks who would know all about what to expect over here. Xavier Bartlett and Spencer Johnson are back in the squad after recovering from their respective injuries. They were superb in the title-winning run for the Heat last season, and were the top two leading wicket-takers of the tournament.
5pm local: Hello and welcome everyone to the first T20I of the three-match series between Australia and Pakistan. After a landmark win in the ODIs, where they won a series in Australia after 22 years, Pakistan will now have their eyes on creating a bit of history in the shortest format as well. They've not won a single game against Australia in these parts, and will back themselves to turn that around. There will be quite a few different faces on the field for both teams than what we saw in the ODIs. Pakistan have many changes to the squad that played in the T20 World Cup, while Australia are without some of their regulars who are preparing for the Tests against India.
Squads:
Australia Squad: Matthew Short, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Inglis(w/c), Marcus Stoinis, Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Hardie, Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa, Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Josh Philippe, Spencer Johnson
Pakistan Squad: Mohammad Rizwan(w/c), Babar Azam, Arafat Minhas, Omair Yousuf, Haseebullah Khan, Irfan Khan, Usman Khan, Agha Salman, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Jahandad Khan, Sahibzada Farhan, Abbas Afridi, Sufiyan Muqeem
